1402 to 1403

A kingdom between kings

King Wenceslas IV spent 1402 and 1403 as the prisoner of his half-brother Sigismund. An interregnum is the time between two reigns, and that is where the server takes its name.

The king is still the source of every title, but he is not here, and nobody plays him.

The silver town

Kuttenberg and its silver

Kuttenberg, Kutná Hora in Czech, is the king's silver town. Its mines feed the mint, and the mint strikes the groschen that pays for everything else.

The Crown's man here is the Royal Urburer. He lives at the mint, governs the Crown's lands, the mines and the mint, judges in the Crown's court, and gives the lords their fiefs. One of the founders plays him, and in character he has the powers of his office and nothing more.

Sedletz

The town and the monastery

Sedletz stands just outside Kuttenberg. For decades the Cistercians and the town quarrelled over who judged whom, and around 1380 the burghers began building St Barbara's church outside the monastery's reach to make the point. That rivalry is still there to be played.

The Sedletz grounds come from the game's Mysteria Ecclesiae expansion. Players without it can't go inside the monastery walls; everything else is open to them.

Who holds the land

Four kinds of land

Every piece of land has one holder, and the holder decides much about how safe it is. Sigismund’s Camp, where his army lay, is held by nobody for now. Newcomers arrive in Suchdol, the settlers’ lordship.
